President Magufuli praised for promoting Kiswahili

Authorities in the Ministry of Information, Tourism, Culture and Sports
have commended the Union President, Dr John Magufuli, for promoting
Kiswahili within the country and abroad.
The praise were made by the Ministry’s
Deputy Minister, Ms Choum Kombo Khamis, when responding to questions
from backbenchers who wanted to know if there were any efforts of
promoting the language. “We have been doing well, so far.
Our leaders President Ali Mohamed Shein
and Dr Magufuli are committed. In all his visits abroad, including AU
meeting in Ethiopia, Dr Magufuli addressed the audience in Kiswahili,”
Ms Khamis said.
She also said both Kiswahili Councils in
Zanzibar and mainland have been doing a good job, and that even some
members of the Tanzania Diasporas should be commended for teaching
Kiswahili abroad.
She said all people including artists
and journalists have a great role to promote Kiswahili to make it among
strong official languages in the world, as discussions continues to make
it a teaching language in higher learning institutions.
“Both Kiswahili and English are our
official languages, but the former will be stronger if we use it widely
and promote it,” the deputy minister said.
