Give military complete co-operation, says General Mwamunyange

Tanzanians have been reminded to cooperate with their defence forces in order to safeguard the country’s peace and security. In the same vein, the government has been urged to increase the budget for the defence forces in order to strengthen them.

The Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) retired Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Davis Mwamunyange, made the call in Dar es Salaam yesterday when he bid farewell to the forces at Twalipo Military Camp at Mgulani.

“Tanzania has contributed in maintaining peace and security in other countries for years; hence it is very important to continue cherishing the sta tus of peace, security and unity we have been enjoying for many years now.

We need peace and security for our developments,” advised the ex-CDF. He applauded both governments’ efforts in strengthening the forces despite challenges of budgets including the ministry of defence and urged more funds to be channelled to the forces to finance trainings and purchase various military equipment.

Gen. Mwamunyange also asked the army to continue being faithful, protecting the country and its people as well as observing its ethics. “I am proud that I am bidding farewell today and leaving a strong army with confidence, dignity, which is trusted in and outside of the country.

Therefore, I want the army to maintain this status,” he emphasized. The new CDF, Gen. Venance Mabeyo, along with his predecessors Generals Robert Mboma and George Waitara attended the colourful ceremony, among other distinguished military officials.

The retired CDF and other 10 top army officials who officially retired from the service enjoyed the colourful ceremony.The generals during their arrivals inspected the special parade mounted for them by four units, while the Ex-CDF inspects six units.

The guard units formed an omega sign on the ground, which means that end of service of the top army officers in the army. The retired generals were escorted out of the ground using special military vehicles up to TAU exit gate with their fellow top officials at the service pushes their vehicle as a symbol of respect.

On her side, retired Brig. Gen Sara Rwambali who has been working in United Nations (UN) committee solving South Sudani dispute advised officers of the army to continue representing well the country in peacekeeping missions.

“Tanzania forces have shown great potentials such that many countries have learned from us. This is a big plus for our country so let’s maintain this,” she urged.

Other retired generals were Brig. Gen Josia Makere, Brig. Gen Mathew Sukambi, Brig Gen Joseph Chengelela, Brig.Gen Michael Luwongo, Brig.Gen Jackson Mrema, Brig.Gen Masumbuko Mndeme, Maj. Gen Ndetaulo Nnko Zakayo and Maj. Gen Rugashian Laswai.
