Indonesia to support industrialisation drive

The campaign to make Tanzania an industrialised country got a boost after the government of Indonesia applauded the programme and promised its support.

Support to Tanzania’s industrialisation strategy was signalled by Indonesian Vice-President, Mr Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, when he held talks with President Ali Mohamed Shein on the sidelines of a summit of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) leaders in Jakarta.

“Indonesia is determined to deepen ties in all fields of development, particularly sup porting Tanzania’s areas of priority including the industrialisation drive,” Mr Kalla said.

According to the statement from State House Press Unit, the VP said his country recognises Zanzibar as a partner in clove business, which is an opportunity to promote trade and agriculture while admiring the growing East African market.

Dr Shein who represented President John Maguful at the IORA meeting, appreciated efforts by Indonesia’s support to Tanzania, underscoring promoting further relations in investment, farming, transportation, infrastructure, fishing and energy.

“We need support mainly in research that will help improve agriculture, training and capacity building,” Dr Shein said as he thanked authorities for organising the successful IORA conference.

Dr Shein who was accompanied by his wife Mwanamwema, the Deputy Minister and the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation in the Union government, Dr Suzan Kolimba and Ambassador Ramadhan Muombwa Mwinyi respectively, are expected to fly back home today.

Others who were in the delegation include Isles Ministers: Ambassador Ms Amina Salum Ali (Trade), Mr Issa Ussi Haji (State House) and Mr Hamad Rashid Mohamed (Fisheries).

The IORA leaders’ conference aimed at improving trade, investment, marine transport, fishing, disaster management, ICT, tourism, culture, gender and economic empowerment among member states.

IORA is an international organisation with 21member states , which include Australia, Bangladesh, Comoros, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Seychelles,Singapore, Somali, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, UAE and Yemen.
