Minister warns students against sex
The Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Policy, Parliament, Labour, Employment, Youth and Disabled, Jenista Mhagama, has cautioned students joining secondary schools, colleges and other institutions of higher learning to avoid engaging in sex till they marry.
The minister made the call recently while addressing Omumwani Secondary School students in Bukoba Municipality. She said by engaging in unprotected sex before marriage, the students are putting themselves in risk positions where they are likely to acquire HIV/ AIDS which may ruin their future and studies.
Ms Mhagama further reminded the students that the future of the nation depends much on them, saying: “You have to take necessary precautions to avoid premature sex and contracting HIV/AIDS, because the killer disease is still prevalent and killing millions of people every year.”
She urged the ones who have voluntarily tested and found themselves HIV positive to be bold enough and start taking Anti- Retroviral drugs (ARVs) to prolong their lives.
Earlier, the minister visited Kabyaile village in Ishozi Ward, Misenyi District, where she witnessed how Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) field engineers were constructing a local health centre.
During the tour, Major Francis Kakula informed the minister that the project was in its final stage of completion, adding that they would be through with it by the end of this month.
On his side, Kagera Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Diwani Athuman, confided to the minister that the government had allocated to them about 4.2bn/- to rehabilitate Nyakato Secondary School infrastructure in the municipality, which was damaged by the September 10, 2016 earthquake.
That was after President John Magufuli had also toured the region in January, this year, where he directed the TPDF engineers to ensure that construction of the health centre at Kabyaile village, in Ishozi ward was completed before the end of this month.
He also instructed officials from Tanzania Building Agency (TBA) who were constructing Ihungo Secondary School to ensure that the project was completed before the end of May, this year. In the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7, about 17 people were killed and hundreds injured.
Meanwhile, the criminal case No 239/2016 facing the former Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Amantius Msole (53), was yesterday adjourned again, waiting for consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Bukoba Resident Magistrate, Joanitha Rwehabura, postponed the case until March 28, this year, citing the absence of the presiding Magistrate, Dennis Mpelembwa who was said to be away on some official duties elsewhere.
