President Magufuli inaugurates Ngerengere military airport
President John Magufuli yesterday inaugurated Ngerengere military airport, which has undergone major repairs of its infrastructure since its construction in 1970.
According to a statement released yesterday by the Directorate of Presidential Communications, at least 137bn/- was used to modernise the airfield.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the airport, with various government leaders, including Defence and National Service Minister Hussein Mwinyi, Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr Lu Youqing and other top officials from the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) in attendance.
Chief of Defence Forces, General Venance Mabeyo, appreciated the Chinese government, which funded the rehabilitation works on the airport.
The works comprised reconstruction of airstrip and parking spaces for airplanes.
He described the airport as among the best airfields in the world, capable of accommodating all types of planes bellow Boeing 777.
