POLEPOLE ASSUMES OFFICE, PROMISES SERVICE DELIVERY
CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) outgoing Ideology and Publicity Secretary Nape
Nnauye handed over office yesterday, with his successor Humphrey
Polepole pledging to pursue the party national chairman’s agenda.
CCM
Chairman, President John Magufuli, addressing the National Executive
Committee (NEC) at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Saturday,
promised to return the party to the grassroots members, giving the
members a lion’s-share say in the party decision making process.
Mr Polepole, a former Constitution
Review Commissioner, speaking at CCM’s Lumumba Sub-Head Office in Dar es
Salaam, said he will assist the secretariat to implement the new
reforms, which seek to strategically strengthen the party’s base.
“We will ensure CCM stands by the people
for the peopl ... we will make CCM the people’s party built by strong
values and commitment,” he said, citing truth and anticorruption as the
party’s major values.
He was optimistic that the party will
maintain to lead through the 10 commitments of every party member. Mr
Polepole told reporters that if only 60 per cent of CCM members were
committed to the party principles, Tanzania could easily attain her
development goals.
“We will strongly train our members to
abide by the principles and as leaders we will build strong political
arguments.” He recalled, however, that the National Chairman, Dr
Magufuli has been working hard to restore the national core values and
now has turned on the party.
The activist and currently Ubungo
District Commissioner (DC), explained that it was critical for President
Magufuli to restore dignity, patriotism, integrity, unity, transparency
and accountability within the government, but “moving on to do the same
with the party was a best option.”
“Now that there will be accountability,
efficiency and discipline from within the party to the government, the
president can easily work on the new constitution ... this time around
the people will have the same understanding,” he said.
Mr Polepole described his stand to the
party and nation as effective and unshakable, charging, “Where truth is
required I will stand by the truth and where there is justice I will
stand by justice.
” Mr Nnauye thanked all party members
and leaders for the support and cooperation, vowing to continue being a
loyal party member. He said for the past five years at the post, he has
faced ups and downs, which he will best document in his book.
