Government reiterates commitment to industrialize
The Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa, yesterday expressed government’s commitment in improving fishing and agri-processing factories as it gears towards an industrial economy, while inviting Iranian business people to invest in various areas.
“We are determined to turn our country into an industrialized nation, we invite investors from Iran to invest in factories for processing agricultural and fishing produce,” he said.
The premier extended the invitation to investors when he met with Iranian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mousa Farhang, at his residence in Dar es Salaam.
Mr Majaliwa said that the fifth phase government is determined to build an industrialized economy in order to boost employment and alleviate poverty among its citizens; the plan, he said, needs huge investment.
He also urged the investors to visit Tanzania and explore investment opportunities in the tourism sector, such as Mountain Kilimanjaro which is the highest in Africa, national parks and game reserves.
Ambassador Farhang applauded the government for its commitment to strengthen the country’s economy, fight against illicit drugs and corruption.
“Corruption and illicit drugs are some of the major problems facing most of the countries, thus Tanzania should be commended for her efforts to fight against the evils,” he said.
The envoy expressed gratitude to the government for good bilateral relations that lasted for 40 years, requesting the former to open an embassy in Iran to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.
“Tanzania and Iran have a historic relationship which is proven by the presence of a large number of Shirazi people in Zanzibar with Iranian origin while the southern part of Iran is dominated by Tanzanians.
Meanwhile, Mr Majaliwa yesterday visited the residence of the late Sir George Kahama to console the widow Ms Janneth Bahama, children and relatives.
