Shein calls for stronger Isles-Brazil ties
President Ali Mohamed Shein yesterday met the Brazilian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Carlos Alfonso Iglesias Puente, at State House where they discussed strengthening relations, with a new focus on promoting spices trade from Zanzibar.
“Zanzibar admires Brazil’s pace of development, let us share experience on how we can speed up economic growth including trade and tourism industry,” President Shein said to his guest, advising him about opening a consulate here like China, India and other countries.
According to the State House press release, the discussion between Shein and the envoy expressed their satisfaction with the current coop eration, as Dr Shein explained about other priority areas of cooperation as health (mainly reducing maternal and child mortality), agriculture and diaspora.
Dr Shein also wooed the Ambassador on attracting investors into the Islands, and that Zanzibar still has many investment opportunities in tourism, and oil and gas development as the envoy nodded in acceptance to work closely with Isles administration and the United Republic of Tanzania.
“Zanzibar has good land, beaches, historical buildings, maintaining culture, and friendly people, important in attracting investors and tourists,” the Brazil Ambassador said promising to promote the East African Island to his country.
The two leaders expressed commitment to ensure that the current relationship between Tanzania-Zanzibar and Brazil remains mutually beneficial to the people of the two countries.
The Ambassador also praised President John Magufuli for his efforts in strengthening relationships in various areas of development and that plans were underway to review areas of relations with the aim of making it better.
