MAGUFULI MOURNS DAKAWA- VETA ACCIDENT VICTIMS
PRESIDENT John Magufuli has sent
condolences to Morogoro Regional Commissioner (RC), Dr Steven Kebwe,
following the death of twelve people killed in two separate accidents
which occurred in the region this week.
In a statement issued in Dar es Salaam
yesterday by the State House, President Magufuli sent his condolences to
the family, relatives and friends through the RC, saying he had
received the news with great shock because the nation has lost important
manpower.
“May you convey my condolences to all
people who lost their relatives in the accidents and inform them that
the government joins them to mourn for the demise of their relatives,”
the president said.
He added: “I am praying for them to be
strong and for the deceased to rest in peace.” Mr Magufuli also said
that he prayed for speedy recovery for the people injured in the
accidents so that they could continue with their productive activities.
At least 12 people were killed while 44
others got injured in two separate road accidents, which occurred along
Morogoro-Dodoma Highway at Dakawa-Veta area in Morogoro Region this
week.
According to the police in the region,
the accidents involved a passenger bus christened Otta Classic and two
trucks which suffered a headon collision. Morogoro Regional Police
Commander (RPC), Mr Ulrich Matei, told journalists that the first
accident occurred on Thursday evening after the two trucks collided and
then caught fire that burnt some of the victims to death.
Mr Matei said that the accident resulted
in the deaths of five people who sustained serious burns. Mr Matei,
however, said that another accident occurred on July 1 at the same area
killing six people on the spot and injuring 44 others.
The RPC said that the accident involved a
speeding passenger bus Otta Classic with registration number T 201 DGK
which collided with one of the trucks involved in the earlier accident
